So much blood, so little time. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 SHOCKING American Horror Story Deaths.

For this list, we’re looking at the most visually or emotionally shocking deaths in “American Horror Story”’s history. Obviously, a spoiler warning is now in effect and also be warned that the majority of these scenes are rather gruesome.

#10: Ma Petite

“Test of Strength”

“American Horror Story” has precious few characters that could be described as innocent or good. The ones that do exist tend to not last very long. Introduced in “Freak Show,” Ma Petite was the only member not driven by sinister motives. Primarily treated as a doll by Elsa and her Cabinet of Curiosities, Ma Petite survived one brush with death before being hugged to death by the gentle giant Dell. While not the most visually gruesome scene in the series, Petite's death is heartbreaking and difficult to watch.

#9: Meep

“Massacres and Matinees”

This one is hard to even think about. Meep needed the “Freak Show” to survive. Only capable of saying a single word – his name – Meep was recruited by Elsa due to his grotesque ability to separate animals from their heads using his teeth. Due to some good old-fashioned backstabbing, the innocent Meep was suspected of murdering a detective and placed in a holding cell with several other inmates. Unable to communicate or defend himself, Meep's cellmates quickly turn against him and beat the defenseless man to death.

#8: Teacher & School Administrator

“Room Service”

A brutal crime is made a billion times worse when the perp is a child. There is just something unsettling about seeing a supposedly pure minor turn the tables on an adult. “American Horror Story” takes this one step further by having students turn on their good-natured teacher and principal. After Max is infected with a vampiric virus, he spreads the disease to a friend and offers their teacher as her first meal. The virus quickly spreads to the rest of the class, forcing a SWAT team to interfere. Since they are children, nobody suspects they were behind the murders.

#7: Gabriel

“Checking In”

Fashioned with jewelry and blonde highlights, this junkie got more than he bargained for during his stay at Hotel Cortez. Gabriel comes across as a former celebrity struggling with a massive addiction. After arriving at the hotel and meeting Sally, Gabriel refuses to declare his love for the clingy ghost. She returns the favor by summoning the Addiction Demon, who proceeds to rape Gabriel with a drill-shaped dildo. Caught somewhere between life and death, Gabriel is sewn into the mattress by Sally and left to rot.

#6: Vivien Harmon

“Birth”

A normal pregnancy is tough enough without involving the supernatural or the satanic. Vivien, her husband Ben, and their daughter Violet moved into the Murder House to try and revive their family. Previously suffering a miscarriage, Vivien ended up pregnant with twins after being unknowingly raped by Tate Langdon, who dressed up in a rubber suit and pretended to be Ben. Unfortunately, Vivien's life kept on getting worse and she hemorrhaged to death while giving birth to her monstrous second child.

#5: Maggie Esmeralda

“Show Stoppers”

Look, everyone loves Neil Patrick Harris, but you should still think twice before agreeing to get sawed in half. For Freak Show, “American Horror Story” ramped up the gore to eleven. There were tragic and gruesome deaths, but only Maggie's demise could be described as stupid. While prepping for the show, Maggie agrees to replace the twins as Chester Creb's assistant and steps into the magic box. The murderous magician suffers a psychotic break and actually saws Maggie in half, ending the act with her intestines falling onto the floor.

#4: Johnny Morgan

“Madness Ends”

Like father, like son. Johnny Morgan was the result of Lana Winters' tragic encounter with the serial killer Oliver Thredson. With no family of his own, Johnny bounced from foster home to foster home and, eventually, started to follow in his father's footsteps as the new Bloody Face killer. Hating Lana for abandoning him and killing Thresdon, Johnny confronts his mother to avenge his father. Lana manages to reason with her son, before putting Johnny out of his misery with a bullet to the head.

#3: Myrtle Snow

“The Seven Wonders”

Burned to death - twice! “Coven” deals with a group of murderous witches and a crazy axe-man. Unlike her rival Fiona, who is driven by a lust for power, Myrtle Snow has the best interests of the community at heart. Suspecting Fiona of killing Anna to take her position as the Supreme witch, Myrtle is framed for Cordelia’s blindness and burned at the stake in an extremely graphic scene. Myrtle was brought back to life by Misty Day, but decided to sacrifice herself to allow the Coven a fresh start without any of the older witches.

#2: Shelley

“The Origins of Monstrosity”

Some people just cannot catch a break, especially when it comes to “American Horror Story.” Diagnosed with nymphomania, Shelley was wrongly sent to Briarcliff Manor by her jealous and sexist husband. A constant rebel, the young woman quickly angered the Asylum's Nazi doctor and Shelley's legs were amputated as a punishment. Sister Mary Eunice abandoned the battered girl at an elementary school playground, where the children discover Shelley. Humiliated and physically traumatized, she is taken to the hospital and choked to death with a rosary by Monsignor Howard.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

The Mattress Man

“Checking In”

Lucas (Pepper's Nephew)

“Orphans”

Matt Miller

“Chapter 7”

#1: Violet Harmon

“Piggy Piggy”

Subtle and “American Horror Story” do not usually go together. Violet Harmon is the one exception. Living in the Murder House with her estranged parents, Violet starts a romance with Tate Langdon after he gives her advice on how to properly cut her wrist. Unfortunately, Violet's boyfriend is actually a ghost who took part in a school shooting and was subsequently killed by the cops. Understandably shocked, Violet swallows a bunch of pills and waits for death, but Tate interferes just in time. Or, that is what we are meant to believe. In reality, Violet overdosed and Tate hid her body in the crawl space.
