During the “Ultimatum”, Magneto lost his mind after losing his daughter Scarlet Witch. The grieving man slew his frenemy, Charles Xavier. The master of magnetism then reversed the Earth’s poles. This decision caused a huge tidal wave to strike New York that ended millions of lives. Along the way, many heroes like Daredevil, Nightcrawler, and Wasp all perished. Magneto then obliterated Wolverine before Jean Grey showed him his mistakes. While we understand that he was distraught over losing a loved one, that was no excuse for him to cause so many more deaths. By the time he was through, fans were glad that Cyclops eliminated the master of magnetism once and for all.

#9: Damian Wayne

Batman’s son is a bit of a controversial figure with fans. On one hand, he has a cool backstory as a young assassin. But on the other hand, he can be annoying, obnoxious and way too edgy for some readers. Even Damian co-creator Grant Morrison wanted the Robin to perish early into their run. Two years after his debut, the young Wayne faced off against a clone that called himself the Heretic. After a close battle, the then-Robin was slain. Damian’s detractors were definitely happy with this turn of events. But as with most comic deaths, his expiration wasn’t permanent. Damian would soon return to continue to polarize fans.

Within the world of the “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”, there are few characters hated more than Hawley Griffin, the Invisible Man. Even before joining the League, the experiment that turned him invisible drove Griffin insane. He struck down anyone that opposed or minorly annoyed him. Even after all that, the League reluctantly places him on the team. The Invisible Man repays them by committing more vicious crimes and selling out everyone to the invading Martians. Disgusted with his horrific actions, Hyde finds Griffin and makes sure the invisible man can’t hurt anyone else ever again.

#7: Jason Todd

After Dick Grayson graduated from Robin to Nightwing, Batman needed a new sidekick for his crusade. He eventually settled on Jason Todd as the new boy wonder. The writers tried to make Todd feel different from his predecessor by giving him a rebellious personality. However, this approach ended up turning fans against the new Robin. Resentment against Todd continued to build until the “A Death In The Family” event. This dark storyliine saw Todd get beaten with a crowbar by the Joker before a bomb exploded. When D.C asked fans to vote on whether he should survive or not, the fans just narrowly elected to let him die. This historic event paved the way for Todd to return as the much better received anti-hero Red Hood.

#6: Shredder

Shredder has been the big bad of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” series since day one. He had no problem spreading misery and pain across New York City. However, that all changed when Shredder took on the Turtles in a massive battle on a building’s roof. During the fight, Leonardo manages to stab Shredder with his sword. The Turtles then offer him a chance to end the conflict himself. However, Shredder proceeds to lob a grenade at them instead. Donatello reacts quickly by knocking Shredder off the roof with his staff. As the villain falls, he’s eliminated by the explosion he set off. While worm clones of Shredder would pop in later, the demise of the original one is still memorable.

#5: Most Of The Inhumans

Top 10 Comic Book Deaths that Pissed You Off

When Fox still had the film rights to the X-Men, Marvel comics did their best to push the Inhumans as their new misfit family of heroes. But the fans didn’t like it…at all. Even pitting the X-Men against the Inhumans did nothing but annoy fans. So, when Disney got the rights back, they decided to clean house. They thinned out the disliked group in the aptly named story “Death of the Inhumans”. During the tale, the alien race known as the Kree demand the Inhumans either join them or perish. The villains follow up on their deaths and only leave a handful of the Inhuman royal family alive. Although this was a tragedy to their people, the Inhuman carnage was just what some fans ordered.

#4: The Governor

Top 10 Most Ridiculous Deaths in Comics

Even in a world of walkers hungry for humans, the Governor is still by far one of the most despicable things roaming the earth. Brian-slash-Philip Blake is willing to do anything to maintain his grip over his society. He captures most of the heroes, torments characters, forces people to fight and removes one of Rick’s hands. The Governor follows all those heinous acts up by laying siege to Rick’s prison home. Once the villain arrives there, he slays two more characters and tries to take out more. In the end, one of the Governor's own people shoots him and pushes him into a horde of hungry walkers. This long awaited and harsh death was still probably a better end than he deserved.

#3: Joker

Also in:

Joker VS Carnage

In the “Injustice” universe, Joker develops a plan to cause Superman to snap. He slays Scarecrow and steals his fear toxin, captures a pregnant Lois Lane, and tricks Superman into thinking he’s fighting Doomsday. When Clark takes the creature into space, he realizes that he fatally wounded Lois. Her heart rate also happens to be linked to a nuclear device in Metropolis. Once the reporter’s heart stops, the bomb explodes and wipes out millions of people in Metropolis. Consumed with anger and grief, Superman breaks into where Batman is interrogating Joker and punches the clown through the chest. This shocking moment is the first step the blue boy scout takes down a dark path.

#2: Grand Regent Thragg

By far, the biggest villain in the “Invincible” series is Thragg. He’s a constant problem for the Grayson clan. The antagonist has ripped off limbs, run people through and has slayed or brought multiple heroes to the brink of death. After witnessing his father’s destruction, Mark snaps and takes Thragg into the sun. They quickly begin to burn under the intense heat. But Mark doesn’t stop. As the two battle on, each punch the hero throws carries the weight of those he’s lost due to Thragg. Even with his arms broken, Mark manages to push his enemy into the sun’s core. This was a battle that’d been building for years and paid off superbly.

#1: Green Goblin

Evolution of Green Goblin

In 1973, Green Goblin Norman Osborn was a big nuisance for Spider-Man. During one of the villain’s bad moods, he captures Peter’s girlfriend Gwen Stacy. A tense standoff unfortunately ends with her tragic death. Enraged, Spider-Man hunts down Osborn and confronts him for the massive loss of Gwen and his other annoying villainous deeds. Osborn attempts to impale Peter Parker from behind with his Goblin Glider. But he forgot about Parker’s Spidey sense. Peter jumps out of the way at the last second. As a result, Osborn is impaled by his own glider. While the villain eventually came back to life, this end to Osborn was a great climax to Spidey and his story.
