Top 10 Behind the Scenes Teen Drama Scandals

Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Behind the Scenes Teen Drama Scandals.

For this list, we’ll be looking at the most shocking and salacious moments that took place off-camera during our favorite teen shows. If we missed any of your favorite jaw-dropping scandals, let us know in the comments below.

#10: Shannen v. Jennie
“Beverly Hills, 90210” (1990-2000)

Not everyone gets along with their coworkers, and that’s totally fine! But sometimes, a personality clash can go too far. On the set of “Beverly Hills, 90210,” Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty more than didn’t get along – their relationship was so bad, that things reportedly almost got physical. On “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” Garth said that one of their worst altercations almost turned into a full-fledged fight. Male cast members were able to hold them back, but it was a scary moment. Castmate Tori Spelling said the interaction shook her up so badly, she hid in her dressing room until it was over.

#9: Barbie v. Sam
“Euphoria” (2019-)

In the first season of “Euphoria,” one character took us all by storm. As Kat, Barbie Ferreira became an instant fan favorite. She was sexy, funny, confident – everything you could want in a star. After her success in season one, you would think she would play a major part in the show’s second season. So fans were surprised when Kat barely made an appearance. Reportedly, Ferreira and the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, vehemently disagreed over the character’s arc. The tension got so bad that Ferreira could apparently barely stand to work with Levinson. These rumors haven’t necessarily been substantiated, but Ferreira did announce she won’t be coming back for season three. That reads drama to us.

#8: Feud
“Gossip Girl” (2007-12)

Blair and Serena are some of the most iconic best friends to ever grace our TV screens. The chemistry between actors Leighton Meester and Blake Lively was so genuine, you would think the two had a strong relationship offscreen. Reportedly, the complete opposite is true. The two actresses did not get along at all throughout the duration of filming. In an interview, one writer said they were simply too different. Luckily, it didn’t lead to too much drama onset – nothing like the fights Serena and Blair could have – and everyone always remained professional. But we’re so surprised at this one, we just had to include it.

#7: Photoshop
“Riverdale” (2017-)

Photoshopping is a scourge in Hollywood, making young women everywhere feel terrible about unrealistic beauty standards. In this case, we’re happy to see young actresses fighting back. In 2018, “Riverdale” stars Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes accused Cosmopolitan Philippines of photoshopping their waists to look smaller. On International Women’s Day, the two women took to Instagram to call out the magazine and call for body positivity. It’s terrible that in 2018, the media was still using everything in its playbook to make women feel bad about themselves. We appreciate these two for speaking out.

#6: Five-Month Marriage
“One Tree Hill” (2003-12)

In the early days of “One Tree Hill,” Brooke and Lucas were our favorite TV couple. So imagine our delight when we found out that actors Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray were actually together in real life. The two were married in 2005, and everything seemed to be going well for the happy couple. But five months later, things ended abruptly. Rumors swirled that Murray cheated on Bush with socialite Paris Hilton while filming a movie together. While those rumors were never verified, clearly something terrible happened to end their romance so quickly. How the two managed to keep filming together, we’ll never know.

#5: Disorderly Conduct
“The Vampire Diaries” (2009-17)

Drunken vampires and photoshoots are never a good combination. Years before “The Vampire Diaries” hit the heights of popularity that it did, four of its cast members – including star Nina Dobrev – were arrested in Georgia. The four actresses, along with a photographer, were reportedly caught “dangling from a bridge” and were apparently flashing cars as they drove past. The actresses have denied the flashing allegations since, and most people don’t really remember this scandal. But it’s just so strange, we had to bring it back. Trust us, if you see those mugshots once, you’ll want to look at them every day.

#4: Charisma Carpenter
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (1997-2003)

For years, Joss Whedon was thought to be one of the men at the forefront of feminist television. As the creator of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” he had a pretty good track record. But in 2021, the truth came out. Actress Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase on “Buffy,” made heinous accusations against Whedon. According to Carpenter, Whedon was a nightmare onset. When he found she was pregnant, he reportedly called her “fat,” and asked her if she was “going to keep it.” Worse than that, he apparently threatened to fire her as well. Clearly, feminism on the camera doesn’t translate to behind-the-scenes.

#3: Diva
“Glee” (2009-15)

Nowadays, people like to poke fun at the conspiracy theory that Lea Michele can’t read. Even Michele herself is in on that joke. But all that good, harmless fun sometimes overshadows the fact that she took her role as Rachel Berry a little too seriously on the set of “Glee.” Some of Michele’s former cast members have accused her of discrimination and harassment onset. One cast member, Samantha Ware, even tweeted that Michele reportedly threatened to … defecate in Ware’s wig. Multiple cast members liked Ware’s tweet, making us think this particularly terrible accusation could be true. In an Instagram apology, Michele said that she might have been “unnecessarily difficult.” But we have to say, this is taking diva behavior way too far.

#2: NXIVM Cast Member
“Smallville” (2001-11)

Scandals can run from petty to serious. Well, this one is cult-level serious. Allison Mack starred as Chloe on “Smallville” for years. She seemed like the perfect choice for Clark’s lovable best friend – cute and sweet. But we should know by now to not judge a book by its cover. Turns out Mack was one of the lead recruiters for the cult known as NXIVM – a “self-help” group that was covering up sex trafficking, forced labor, and more for years. Mack was sentenced to three years in prison in 2021, but was involved with the cult while she was still on “Smallville.” You think you know someone!

#1: Mark Schwahn
“One Tree Hill” (2003-12)

Mark Schwahn could have just been remembered for creating one of our all-time favorite teen dramas, “One Tree Hill.” Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. In 2017, two of the show’s writers came forward and said that they were sexually harassed by Schwahn. After the initial allegations, actresses Hilarie Burton and Danneel Harris stepped forward in support. Not only that, but they also alleged that they too had suffered from Schwahn’s harassment on set. Other cast members have come forward to support these women, but the whole situation makes watching the show tough to swallow. It’s hard to imagine what they must have been going through behind the scenes.
