VOICE OVER: Aaron Brown WRITTEN BY: Ty Richardson
As much as we love “Resident Evil”, it doesn't always put us through the best boss battles. For this list, we're looking at the most intolerable bosses in Capcom's survival horror series. If you aren't caught up on the series, beware of spoilers ahead. Our list includes Stinger from “Resident Evil 0” (2002), Urias Strajer from “Resident Evil: Village” (2021), Derek Simmons from “Resident Evil 6” (2012), and more!
Script written by Ty Richardson Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re taking a look at the 10 Worst “Resident Evil” Bosses. For as much as we love “Resident Evil”, it doesn’t always put us through the best boss battles, and these were the most intolerable in the series. Of course, if you haven’t played “Village” yet, spoiler warning. Which “Resident Evil” boss do you think is the worst? Did they make the list? Let us know down in the comments!

Vulcanblubber

“Resident Evil: Revelations 2” (2015) Look, there are some things we can appreciate about “Revelations 2”. The co-op aspect, the focus on Claire and Barry, Raid Mode… But the one thing that keeps us from wanting to replay it is this dumb miniboss. (Hey, a miniboss is still a boss, so it counts.) We don’t have the Vulcanblubber on here because it’s hard necessarily - it’s simply just annoying. All you can really do is hide behind cover and keep firing until it finally dies. It's basically the cockroach of the game; it soaks up so much damage that it brings the game’s pacing to a crawl and makes for a very boring encounter.

Eveline

“Resident Evil: Village - Shadows of Rose” (2022) We did manage to play through “Shadows of Rose” before making this list, and unfortunately, it isn’t the best DLC “Resident Evil” has seen. It's cool and has some neat ideas, but overall, it's a bit weak. Case in point, the boss fight against Eveline. All you do here is hide behind cover and wait for this little girl to exhaust herself from her tantrum, hold L1, rinse and repeat. It is a whole load of nothing, and the dialogue just makes Eveline more annoying. Was this encounter really necessary to close out the Winters storyline? Mm, probably not.

Albert Wesker

“Resident Evil 5 - Lost in Nightmares” (2010) We are not throwing Wesker on here to hate on him. After all, he’s the reason why we get all of the wonderful “seven minutes” memes. But the fight against him in the “Lost in Nightmares” DLC was just… What the hell was this, man? You shoot at him until he charges you, then just dodge quickly enough to land a melee hit on him. Or just avoid him for three minutes. In other words, your choices are to waste lead or play cowardice. Either way is super unsatisfying.

Stinger

“Resident Evil 0” (2002) Yeah, of all the “Resident Evil” games, RE0 seems to consistently have the worst boss fights. Sure, many will point to the big bad bat, but Stinger, the giant scorpion of the Ecliptic Express, is arguably worse. Much like Wesker, Stinger has nothing interesting going on to defeat it. Avoid the attacks, try not to get caught in its insta-kill move, and shoot it in the head. Find the hunting rifle beforehand, and you can off this dumb bug in two shots. How anti-climatic, and yet it's not even the worst boss in the game! You’ll see soon enough.

Ogroman

“Resident Evil 6” (2012) If you ever come across a person who doesn’t understand the resentment towards RE6, all you need to do is show them the fight against the Ogroman. This boss fight is the epitome of everything that is wrong with RE6: it’s pure action meant to cater to the “Call of Duty” crowd, completely abandoning any ounce of horror in favor of using turrets and mindlessly shooting at a super obvious weak point as swarms of enemies annoy you around every corner. And the worst part? You have to fight this thing TWICE - once with Chris and Piers and again with Jake and Sherry. And yet, we still wouldn’t call this the worst in the game.

Urias Strajer

“Resident Evil: Village” (2021) For as much as we love “Village”, there is one boss fight that made replaying the game a bit of a drag. Man, that Chris segment at the end of the game almost brings us back to the days of RE6 with how action-heavy it is, and the fight against Urias Strajer is just infuriating. It's you and him in a super small room with very, very little room to move about and avoid his attacks. As for dishing out damage, using the Target Locator is your best option since Strajer is highly resistant to just about every other weapon. And of course, we get the B-S “oh, we need some time to reload”, so you just get to be a sitting duck and run back and forth until you get the thumbs up for another shot.

Ricardo Irving

“Resident Evil 5” (2009) Of the villains featured in RE5, Ricardo Irving is just plain annoying. He’s annoying in design, he’s annoying in visuals, and he’s annoying in voice. The fashion is absurdly loud, and he talks like one of the weasels from “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” As for fighting him, good lord… The windows to dodge him are super small and give you little time to react. Most of your time is spent waiting for him to emerge from the water so you can just unload bullets, and as we’ve seen with Wesker and Eveline, waiting around simply isn’t a fun basis for a boss fight.

Derek Simmons

“Resident Evil 6” (2012) Playing the waiting game may not be the best option for a boss fight, but you know what’s worse than that? A boss that doesn’t know when to finally die. Just about all of Chapter 5 in Leon’s campaign consists of fighting this jackass. Every segment feels like it might be the end until he re-emerges moments later with a brand new form. If we wanted a boss with thirty final forms, we’d go play a JRPG like “Final Fantasy”. We would much rather face that stupid invisible snake from Chris’s campaign again.

Gravedigger

“Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles” (2007) Whereas the Gravedigger in RE3 gave you two viable options for a suspenseful boss fight, the same cannot be said for the Gravedigger we encountered in “Umbrella Chronicles”. Most of the boss battle is spent watching it burrow underground and spit out debris in the sky. There is very little interaction between the player and the enemy that its eventual demise just isn’t satisfying. Come on, when Stinger is more fun than a classic RE3 boss, you’re doing something wrong.

Centurion

“Resident Evil 0” (2002) Ultimately, this giant pathetic excuse of a centipede is the worst boss in the entire franchise. Upon turning the crank in the Rearing Pool, the Centurion will drop down and capture Rebecca. From there, it will simply wander around the room as you waste every bit of ammo you have shooting at it. The only time it will attack is if you get too close to its front side or if you happen to be in the way of its path. It is the least threatening enemy in “Resident Evil” franchise, and the fact that it merely exists to eat up ammunition makes it the dumbest, most irritating boss fight and serves as the antithesis of what a boss fight SHOULD be.
